I watched Kochadaiyaan premier show last
night in Des Moines. I will quickly say my review on it at the end, but more than that, we had a very different movie watching experience which I would want to share with you all.
Vijay & I planned to go the movie, but I
had to go to Saibaba pooja at Usha’s house last night and Vijay got stuck in production
issues at office. So, I thought we will not go. Show was at 8:30 and Vijay
called me around 7:30 & asked me to touch base with his teammate Raghu to
get the tickets. I called Raghu and asked him to tickets and hold 2 seats for us.
By the way, it was $25 per person.
Everything was set and Vijay came to the
pooja directly at 8 PM, we had dinner and left at 8:15 PM. We reached theater at
8:30, but there were only around 30 people and we could easily sit in the back J.
The movie started and there were no titles
too. And the movie took off immediately with 3 songs in the first 15 minutes
and there were some unknowns. I thought Soundarya Rajinikanth (director of the
movie) is very intelligent and did a good job and will bring the puzzle pieces
together. I asked Vijay whether he understood the movie as it was historical based
and the dialogues were more in pure tamil.
He said he is following but not sure whether it is the starting, I told
him that the movie will have the answers in the second half.
But after like an hour, the movie ended and
the end titles started scrolling. Then only we realized that we watched the
second half first J. We knew the person who screened the movie, I asked Vijay to call
him and most of the guys went to the Theater manager and complained.
They apologized and started the first half.
So, we watched the first half next. They show the details about motion capture
technology. This is the 1st motion capture technology Indian movie. After
the first half was over, when we were leaving the theater manager gave each of
us an unexpired ticket which we can use for future screening and they refunded
out tickets too.
So, the bottom line is We watched Kochadaiyaan
premier show for FREE plus got $10 for each of us J.
Thalaivar Superuuuu…
Thought it was really a very FUN movie
watching experience.
By the way, movie was surely a one-time watch.
It is a historical movie and I liked the story and the dialogues were very
good. But felt that the motion capture technology was concentrated more on
Rajinikanth than anyone else. In some songs, the pair looked like they were
blind. But there were some “Ahaa” scenes & presented very well like
palaces, ships etc. The technology is new to Indian cinema and can be proud that
Rajinikanth acted in it J.
Forgot to mention the yester year actor late Nagesh is also included in the movie as a character (Rajinikanth's uncle). Someone dubbed for him and they used the motion capture technology to bring him on the movie. That was really cool.
